[Avascular necrosis of the femoral head after transcervical fracture].

چکیده
The association of transcervical fractures of the femur with avascular necrosis of the capital fragment was recognised many years ago. Nevertheless several basic questions, such as the incidence ofavascular necrosis, the extent and pattern ofbone death and revascularisation and also the role played by avascular necrosis in non-union of these fractures, remain unanswered. In the hope that a histological study might throw some light on these and other problems still under discussion, all femoral heads removed at operation or necropsy from patients with displaced transcervical fractures have been examined since January 1958.

MRI of early osteonecrosis of the femoral head after transcervical fracture.
We have carried out a prospective study of 17 patients (14 women, 3 men) of mean age 48 years (21 to 76) with transcervical fractures of the femur using MRI to detect early evidence of avascular necrosis of the head. Two fractures were Garden stage I, 12 stage II, and three stage III. We performed internal fixation under radiological control at a mean of five days (2 to 15) after injury using a...
متن کاملAvascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head: Are Any Genes Involved?
Avascular necrosis of the femoral head (ANFH) is a pathologic process that results from interruption of blood supply to the femur bone resulting in the death of bone cells and collapse of the femoral head. Nontraumatic ANFH continuesto be a significant challenge to orthopedic surgeons. While the exact mechanisms remain elusive, many new insights have emerged from research in the last decade tha...
متن کاملAvascular necrosis associated with fracture of the femoral neck after hip resurfacing: histological assessment of femoral bone from retrieval specimens.
The cause of fracture of the femoral neck after hip resurfacing is poorly understood. In order to evaluate the role of avascular necrosis we compared 19 femoral heads retrieved at revision for fracture of the femoral neck and 13 retrieved for other reasons. We developed a new technique of assessing avascular necrosis in the femoral head by determining the percentage of empty osteocyte lacunae p...
متن کاملAvascular necrosis of the femoral head at 2 years after pertrochanteric fracture surgery: Case report
INTRODUCTION The avascular necrosis of the femoral head represents the death of bone tissue due to the lack of blood supply. The disease has a progressive evolution and left untreated leads to femoral head collapse and severe arthritis. CASE PRESENTATION We present a case of a pertrochanteric fracture which has been successfully operated with a dynamic interlocking trochanteric gamma nail on ...
متن کاملIntravenous bisphosphonate therapy for children who have a traumatic fracture neck of femur and osteonecrosis: a case report.
BACKGROUND Prognosis of traumatic osteonecrosis of femoral head in children is poor for either conservative treatment or surgical intervention. Intravenous bisphosphonate is an expecting medication to reduce femoral head resorption and to prevent femoral head collapse after traumatic osteonecrosis. This mechanism will reduce development of osteoarthritis and disability in the future. OBJECTIV...
